An LGBTQIA+ Welcoming Congregation

An LGBTQIA+ Welcoming Congregation
The Bis-Man UU is an LGBTQIA+ Welcoming Congregation. We were recognized by the Unitarian Universalist Association and received this title. This means we affirm and include people who identify on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum at every level of congregational life—in worship, in program, and in social occasions—welcoming them as whole people. We at the Bis-Man UU couldn’t be more proud to accept the title from the UUA’s Welcoming Congregation Program and continue in our work.
LGBTQIA+ Welcoming Congregation Explained
As an LGBTQIA+ Welcoming Congregation, we have pledged to:
- honor the lives of all people and equally affirm displays of caring and affection without regard for sexual orientation.
- celebrate diversity by using inclusive language and content in worship.
- incorporate an understanding of the experience of LGBTQIA+ persons throughout all of our programs, including religious education.
- affirm and celebrate LGBTQIA+ issues and history.
- affirm marriage equality and conduct same-sex weddings.
- advocate for LGBTQIA+ people, promoting justice, freedom, and equality in the larger society. We speak out when their rights and dignity are at stake.
More Work to Be Done
We recognize that there’s always something more to learn and remain open to deepening our understanding about the lives of people who identify as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. All of who you are is sacred. All of who you are is welcome.
